Justification, application, and evaluation
The use of a CloudCuddle Maxx as a restrictive measure always requires careful consideration, clear justification, and regular evaluation.
Step 1
1. Justification of the restrictive measure
A restrictive measure such as the use of a bed tent must always be weighed carefully and proportionately.
1
Safety objective The bed tent is used to prevent serious risk of falls, running away or self-injury. The primary aim is protection, not control. |
2
Proportionality The measure must not be more restrictive than necessary. First it is examined whether lighter alternatives offer sufficient protection. |
3
Subsidiarity The bed tent is only used when less invasive measures prove insufficiently effective. |
4
Consent Parents, representatives and, where possible, the child themselves are involved in the decision-making. |
5
Professional and legal frameworks The measure must comply with locally applicable legislation and regulations (in the Netherlands: the Wzd), the care plan and the organisation's internal guidelines. |
Step 2
2. Application of the measure
1
Indication The application is recorded in the care plan with the reason, purpose and expected duration. |
2
Safe use Healthcare professionals are trained in the correct use of the CloudCuddle. |
3
Comfort and dignity The child must feel safe and comfortable. The tent provides a space of their own, offering security. |
4
Supervision and accessibility The child always remains audible and accessible to caregivers. |
5
Duration and frequency The bed tent is used only during sleep or rest periods and no longer than necessary. |
Step 3
3. Evaluation of the measure
1
Regular evaluation within the care team Recorded in the care plan, for example every three months. • Has the safety objective been achieved?
• Are there negative effects on wellbeing, sleep or development? • Are new alternatives available? |
2
Involving parents and representatives Experiences, concerns and wishes are actively asked about. |
3
Reporting and monitoring Every use is recorded for transparency and verifiability. |
4
Stopping criterion The measure is ended as soon as the risk has been sufficiently reduced or alternatives prove effective. |
In summary
The use of a CloudCuddle Maxx bed tent as a restrictive measure can be justified when there is a clear safety need, careful consideration of alternatives, consent of those involved and ongoing evaluation. The measure is always recorded in an individual care plan and regarded as a temporary protective intervention aimed at safety and wellbeing.
